Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Romanticism Inference LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you use readvivo (the "App"), our classic-literature reading application. By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Using the App without an account: You can enjoy readvivo's free content without creating an account or signing in. If you only use the free content, we do not require you to log in and we do not collect personal information that identifies you.

Information you provide when you sign in: We only collect account information if you choose to sign in, and what we collect depends on the method you use:

If you contact our support team, we also collect the correspondence and any details you choose to include.

Reading activity and preferences: Your reading progress, bookmarks, library, and in-app settings are stored locally on your device. Some of this reading activity may be sent to us to help us improve the app experience — and when it is, it is not tied to your identity.

Purchases and subscriptions: All payments are processed by Apple on iOS and by Google on Android. We never receive or store your card number or any payment details. We use RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, to verify and manage your subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous account identifier, your device and app-store identifiers, and your purchase and subscription history, so that we can unlock the content you have paid for and restore your purchases across your devices. RevenueCat acts on our behalf under contract and does not use your information for its own advertising.

Reports you send us: If you report a problem with an illustration, we receive the identity of that image and any optional free-text note you choose to write. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in these notes.

Information collected automatically: We collect only the minimal information needed to keep the App functioning, and this information is not tied to your identity:

Because payments are processed only through Apple and Google, we never receive or store any of your payment information, and we do not use the information above to identify you personally.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

3. What We Will Never Do

We believe your data should work for you, not against you. We will never:

4. Our Commitment to an Ad-Free Experience

readvivo is committed to an ad-free experience — no banners, no pop-ups, all about reading. Because we earn no revenue from advertising, subscriptions are what keep readvivo running. If you choose to subscribe, we are deeply grateful: your support is what allows us to keep improving the App and building a product worth your time.

5. AI-Generated Features

readvivo uses artificial intelligence in two ways, and we want to be precise about which one involves anything you do.

Illustrations and narration are generated ahead of time from the public-domain literary texts themselves. Nothing about you is involved in producing them.

The in-app dictionary "Explain" feature is the only AI feature that responds to something you do. When you select a word or phrase and ask for an explanation, we send that selection, the passage it appears in, and the book title to Google's Gemini API in order to generate the explanation. We do not send your name, email address, account information, or any identifier that links the request back to you — the request reaches Google anonymously. Google does not use data submitted through the paid Gemini API to train its models, and neither do we.

You cannot direct our AI to create content. readvivo has no prompt box, no image or text generator you can steer, and no way to publish AI output to other readers. The dictionary "Explain" feature described above is the only AI output you can trigger, and it answers one fixed question about a passage in the book you are already reading. All illustrations and narration are produced by us in advance, never on your instruction.

Artwork that is not AI-generated is labelled with the artist, the time period, and the location.

AI-generated explanations, illustrations, and narration can be inaccurate or incomplete. They are aids to reading, not authoritative sources.

6. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances, and any third party who receives user data is required to provide the same or equal protection of that data as described in this policy:

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, we do not show targeted advertising, and we do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. Section 7 names every company we work with.

7. Third Parties We Work With

We think you should be able to see exactly who touches what. The companies below fall into three groups, and the difference between them matters.

Companies that hold your account information. Your account lives with Google Firebase Authentication, which stores your email address, your name if you provided one, and your sign-in history. If you sign in with Google or with Apple, that company handles the sign-in itself and tells us only your name and email address, as described in Section 1.

Companies that receive an identifier, but never your name or email. RevenueCat manages your subscription status. It receives an anonymous account identifier, your device and app-store identifiers, and your purchase history. It is never sent your name, your email address, or anything you have read.

Companies that receive no information about you at all. Google's Gemini API generates dictionary explanations, and receives only the passage and the word you selected — with no account identifier, no device identifier, and nothing else that could connect the request to you. ElevenLabs, OpenAI, and Brave Search are used solely to produce the narration and artwork from public-domain literary texts before you ever open a book, and never receive anything about you or your reading.

Our servers, storage, and databases run on Google Cloud Platform in the United States and Canada, and this website is served by Cloudflare. Every company named above is bound by contract to protect your information to the same standard described in this policy. None of them may sell your information or use it for their own advertising.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep each kind of information only as long as it is useful for the purpose we collected it for:

You can delete your account and all associated personal data directly in the App, from the account menu, no matter which sign-in method you used. Deleting your account removes your authentication record, unlinks your subscription profile, and erases the reading data stored on your device. You can also email us at support@romantic-inference.com and we will take care of it for you. We complete verified deletion requests within 30 days, subject to any retention we are legally required to maintain. You may withdraw consent to our processing at any time.

We are always sorry to see you go, and we hope we can do better — but if this is what you want, we will honor your request.

9. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@romantic-inference.com.

11. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date above.
